Cochin Bunkers Private Limited transports Sulphuric acid on the M V ASHTAMUDI a 650 T DWT RINA Classed chemical barge. The highly hazardous cargo is transported for the Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore Limited from the Q10 berth at Cochin Port to the plants located at Ambalamugal in Cochin. The company also carries out inter plant transfer of the material as an when required. The transport of close to 600 MT of cargo at a time for the fertilizer company relieved them immensely of the stress of transport of the extremely hazardous chemical through the congested roads of Cochin city by chemical tanker trucks.
The company is a pioneer in the transport of Sulphuric acid by barges over the inland waterways. The M V ASHTAMUDI has been specially designed and certified by RINA a European Classification society for the carriage of the dangerous chemical. The vessel has been fitted with specially developed pumps, valves and other fittings to enable it carry the material safely.
Cochin Bunkers Private Limited also transports phosphoric acid an equally hazardous chemical through M V KUMARAKOM a 500 T DWT chemical barge specially made with rubber lined cargo tanks. The vessel carries close to 800 MT of phosphoric acid every day which otherwise was being transported by trucks through the overcrowded streets of Kochi City. Besides relieving the city roads of the immense congestion caused by the continuous operations of the trucks with the dangerous chemical the transport by barge has aided significantly in the reduction of emissions from the hundred of trucks which would have otherwise been carried the material.
